Caramel apple pie

Nothing screams Fall like a warm apple pie. It’s gooey, warm, and simply delicious. I used a store bought crust (bc who has time to make a real crust) and gave a lattice design on the top with a second pie crust. It’s the perfect sweet treat for this coming holiday season!

For the pie:
6 cups of peeled and chopped honey crisp apples
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp maple syrup
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 cup water
2 sheets of pie crust

1. Peel the skin off of the apples. Cut the apples in half, remove the stem/seeds, and thinly slice.
2. Add the apples to a sauce pan along with 1 cup of water. Add in the rest of the pie filling ingredients and cook on medium-low heat for about an hour. The apples will reduce in size and start to caramelize within the hour. Stir occasionally.
3. Take 1 sheet of pie crust and lay it on a pie pan. Add the apple pie filling once it has cooled.
4. Cut the other pie crust into 1/2 inch strips and criss cross over the top of the apple pie.
5. Bake in the oven at 350 degrees for an hour

For the salted caramel sauce:
1. Add 1 cup of sugar to a sauce pan and cook on medium heat. Stir frequently to avoid the sugar from burning.
2. Once the sugar has melted, add in 1 stick of butter. Keep stirring to avoid from burning.
3. Gradually whisk in 1/2 cup of cream. Once the cream is mixed in the sauce, let it sit for 1 minute. The sauce will rise and bubble (which is what we want to see!)
4. Remove from the burner and stir in a pinch of thick flakey sea salt

Add the sauce on top of a slice of pie, along with a little a ice cream 😍
